French-born architect Thierry Despont has designed homes for the rich and famous — and now, you can live in his very own.
Despont, who has styled luxe homes for Bill Gates and Calvin Klein — Klein’s Despont-designed mansion in East Hampton recently sold for $85 million — has listed his 10,000-square-foot Tribeca townhouse for $24.99 million.
Despont, who’s also an interior designer, has worked on the 1986 restoration of the Statue of Liberty, as well as a $450 million renovation of the Ritz Paris, which wrapped in 2016.
Needless to say, the look of Despont’s own home, at 182 Franklin St., packs quite the punch. Listing images show a full-floor great room on the fifth story with 15-foot ceilings, paneled walls, built-in shelves, oversize windows and space for lounge seating in front of one of the home’s fireplaces. There’s also a roomy kitchen that shares a level with a convertible billiards and dining room, wrapped with a plaid-print wall pattern.
The entry foyer opens to a staircase and an elevator. The first floor of the property houses an artist’s studio, where Despont reportedly painted and sculpted, but can be converted to a media room or a children’s playroom. The master suite takes up the entire third floor, and includes a marbled ensuite bathroom, a sauna, a dressing room and lots of closet space. The master is one of four bedrooms inside — the remaining three have their own full bathrooms and kitchenettes.
Elsewhere, there’s a basement with a laundry room.
Rueben Schatz of Douglas Elliman has the listing.
